Sherborne Summer School of Music
Conductors’ Courses
Annual summer school comprising two conducting courses:
Week One:
Practical Conducting, directed by Rodolfo Saglimbeni
Week Two:
The George Hurst Conductors’ Course, directed by Rodolfo Saglimbeni with Denise Ham and Dominic Grier
The Practical Conducting Course builds basic skills and is ideal for beginners. It also forms a good preparation for the George Hurst Course in the following week. The two can be taken consecutively to form a comprehensive two-week course. Beginners would benefit from observing the George Hurst Course.
The George Hurst Conductors’ Course was founded by George Hurst at Canford Summer School in 1961 and has consistently maintained a high international reputation for teaching conductors who are serious about the art. The intensive week comprises daily technique sessions, orchestral rehearsals, small group work with piano, musicianship and score study.
